When a property is going to remain unoccupied for an extended period, simply switching off the hot water cylinder may not be enough.
We had previously recommissioned and tested this OSO unvented hot water cylinder. When it was confirmed that the property would remain vacant, HotFix returned to temporarily decommission the system correctly.
The work included:
- Safely isolating the electrical supply
- Isolating the incoming water supply
- Draining the cylinder
- Carrying out final electrical and system checks
- Leaving clear warning notices to prevent the cylinder being refilled or switched on accidentally
OSO’s warranty conditions state that if a cylinder is not intended to be used for 60 days or more, it must be drained. Following the manufacturer’s instructions helps protect the cylinder from the effects of prolonged stagnant water and supports the conditions of its warranty.
Before the property is occupied again, the cylinder will need to be correctly refilled, checked for leaks, recommissioned and fully heated before hot water is used.
